studio Le Relais Saint Yves at Legato
although it has a wooden floor, it works great for pointe shoes too
Programme*:
90-120 minutes class | 120 minutes Juliette variation | possibly stretching (bring your resistance band!) short and medium breaks in between
*this is a very approximate schedule
During the Easter weekend, I am offering a ballet workshop for a select group of dancers who will immerse themselves in studying Juliette's 1st variation from Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo & Juliette. Watch it performed by Yasmine Naghdi here.
Because of the small number of participants, each dancer will receive individual attention and coaching during the classes and variation study. So only people who are serious about their training should apply. Saying this, as with all Holistic Ballet events, the atmosphere will be very friendly, supportive, and fun.
Please note that pictures and videos will be taken during the workshop and will be published online and on social media.
What to expect
This is going to be an intense 3-day programme. I understand that not everyone can train for up to 4 hours each day. Some will thrive whilst others will have to pace themselves a bit more and there will be room for each person. You can wear regular ballet slippers or pointe shoes. You can also bring skirts, or costumes if these help you dance.
-
Holistic Ballet Class
We begin each workshop day with a Holistic Ballet class. We will take the time to address questions and specific challenges you may have.
-
Juliette Variation
After a short break, we are going to work on Juliette's variation.
day 1: learning and clarifying the steps
day 2: working on technique
day 3: working on technique, port de bras and performance skills
We may modify parts of the solo to match our skill levels and abilities.
Closer to the time and once I received your payment, I am going to provide a video tutorial so you can familiarise yourself with the steps ahead of time. The more you familiarise yourself with the steps, the more you will enjoy the workshop.
-
deep stretching
Depending on time, we may end the day with stretching to help your body recover quicker from the intense training.

Is This Retreat Suitable For Me?
This retreat is designed for students who have at least three years of regular ballet training. While mastery is not required, you should have a certain level of understanding of ballet technique and the ability to remember 32 counts of choreography (regular ballet class combinations) to participate in this workshop.
